A traditional song of my tribe. Which I wrote.

The Fangirl's Lament

Live at Lestat's, Disc Two, Track 12

We move through these parties and look at the faces
Love, didn't you used to be sleeping with her?
Let's have one more drink now for old times' sake, love
Let's have one more drink for the people we were

I've seen the young crazy ones flirting with danger
While predators watch them, as predators do
And if something terrible should happen to them
It beats dying of boredom -- once I thought so too

There are ghosts in these halls, there are ghosts in these pages
Each one smiles with a mouth like a box full of knives
It's the things that we don't, not the things that we do, love
That we live to regret for the rest of our lives

It seems to me once it was all more exciting
My god, has it already been fifteen years?
The sex and the stories, the laughter and fighting
The joy and the wonder, the whiskey and tears

We move through these parties and look at the faces
Love, didn't you used to be sleeping with her?
Let's have one more drink now for old times' sake, love
Let's have one more drink for the people we were
